Theater Review | ‘Trophy Wife’: She Marries for Money, but Alas, Sells Herself Cheap
Trophy Wife, a musical that opened Sunday at La MaMa E.T.C., is a bright, perky little piece based on Anton Chekhov s Anna on the Neck.
A Sampling Of Urban Horticulture At The Garden And Antiques Show
Parks & Recreation participated in the Garden & Antiques trade show at the Gramercy Armory. From Friday, March 9 to Sunday, March 11, Parks representatives staffed a booth exhibiting a plethora of our nursery-grown plants in a breathtaking display of urban horticulture. The fact that it was all indoors, contained in a space less than 8′ x 10′, made it all the more spectacular. Species included Juniperus chinensis and Euonymus fortunei. We would like to thank Stella Shows Management, Inc. who generously donated the space to Parks. The multi-level garden was an example of displays that our Greenstreet and Forestry divisions plant throughout the five boroughs, from flagship parks to traffic medians. It was a great way to educate the (very receptive) public about botany and landscaping, and provided a platform to showcase our work in a number of other areas. We specifically highlighted the upcoming series of events and activities being hosted in conjunction with the National Gardening Association in honor of National Garden Month. This will be the second April in a row where the NGA is focusing their efforts on new york, and Parks is pleased to offer an array of activities to celebrate including:The Growing Connection, with the United Nations’ Food & Agriculture Organization, Union Square Park, April 15Flower Arranging Lecture, Arsenal Gallery, April 26NYC Grows Garden Festival in Union Square Park, April 28The Garden Month activities will also include greenhouse tours, nature hikes, and a self-guided walk through the Lower East Side Community Gardens, downloadable as a podcast from nyc.gov/parksApril also happens to National Poetry Appreciation Month, and the two occasions couldn’t go better together. From the Bible to Broadway, garden themes have always been cultivated by poets and playwrights. We are calling on all Daily Plant readers to submit their favorite garden, flower or plant poems, quotes or lines -published or original- for inclusion in issues throughout the month. For more information about Garden Month, or if you’d like to participate, please call Gary Rozman at (212) 360-1338.Special Thanks to Jack Linn and Jill Mainelli for facilitating the event; to Bram Gunther and staff members Ashley Wolff and Michael Meric for design and installation; and Rick Zeidler for transport. Thanks as well to Sunny Corrao and Wendy Dessy for staffing. Written by Gary Rozman THIRTEEN YEARS AGO IN THE PLANT(Friday, March 18, 1994) Parks’ Natural Resources Group (NRG) has published a new guide to the metropolitan area’s native plants, Native Species Planting Guide for new york City and Vicinity. The 127-page softbound book provides park architects, planners, horticulturists, maintenance workers and contractors with information on native horticultural species.
