Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Volunteer in Brooklyn with City Year New York. Visit one of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s namesake parks: Brooklyn’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, Manhattan’s Martin Luther King Playground, or the Bronx’s two Martin Luther King Triangles–Austin Place & East 149 Street and West 168 Street and Shakespeare Avenue. Attend the King Classic Basketball Tournament. On Monday, the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be celebrated at St. John’s Recreation Center as the community leaders of today take to the court to meet the community leaders of tomorrow. This second annual ‘King Klassic’ is a fun and innovative way of inspiring our youth and teens to emulate their success while fostering healthy relationships between the community’s current and future leaders. Teens ages 17 and under are eligible to participate in this fun and free exhibition. Any youth interested in playing should register in advance by calling the Brooklyn Recreation division of the Parks Department at (718) 965-8935.
